Wilson made numerous sketches of the rookery at Cape Crozier in 1903, including a pencil study of the same scene ('The Great Ice Barrier, a view looking East from Cape Corzier'), and variants now in the collection of the Scott Polar Research Institute, cambridge. Dr. Edmund Wilson's 118-year old painting of a bird was discovered in an historic hut in Cape Adare, Antarctica. Sir Archibald Geikie (1835-1924), the noted geologist, was from 1908-1912 president of the Royal Society. Presumably given to Shackleton by 'Billy' on the outward voyage of the Discovery as a souvenir of these 'early hours' spent together.
